Bicycle Safety with Cabra Community Gardaí

Be safe travelling to school

The local community Gardaí from Cabra Garda station were busy here in St Declan's this week raising awareness among our students about safety in travelling to and from school.

Garda Ciara McGrath, Derek Campion, Alan Reddy and Antoin Keating visited the school on Tuesday and Wednesday where they set up a workshop to place personalised identification on students' bicycles. During the marking procedure they spoke with each student about road safety and care of their bicycle to ensure it was roadworthy.

The importance of wearing high vis markings on jackets and bags was outlined with students being offered a free high vis vest courtesy of the RSA. The use of helmets while cycling was stressed and the role they play in helping to save lives and prevent serious injury. Lets hope all of this knowledge is put into practice.

Our thanks to Garda Antoin Keating and his colleagues from community policing for providing the service and to the TY Safe School committee for helping to organise the event.
