Catholic Schools Week 2021

Catholic Schools Week 2021

Monday Reflection – Faith

Scripture: ‘Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen’ Heb 11:1

Quote: “Faith is taking the first step, when you can not see the entire stair case.” Rev Martin Luther King Jr.

Reflection: For many, their religious faith or their values have guided them like a beacon through the difficult experiences of 2020. Their faith and values have been a comfort and guide through the challenging times. Often their faith and values have spilled over into service of those who are vulnerable, those who are not as resilient as they’d like to be. It hasn’t always been easy, but in faithfulness, creative ways through have been found.

Tuesday Reflection – Community

Scripture: “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am with them” Matthew 18:20.

Quote: “The golden way is to be friends with the world and regard the whole human family as one” Mahatma Gandhi.

Reflection: Our school community is a rich tapestry, made up of different threads, all of which are different, unique and equal. This is very like the communities that Jesus created when he was alive, where people of different races, beliefs, genders and backgrounds were all accepted. We recognise and celebrate the individuality of all our students and how they contribute to make St Declan’s College such a vibrant place to learn and grow together. During this Catholic Schools Week we reflect on our community and how, despite our differences, that we share core values; Respecting each other. Trying to reach our potential. Helping to make the world a better place with our gifts and talents.

Thursday Reflection – Challenges & Resilience

Scripture: ‘Come to me all you who are weary and heavy burdened, and I will give you rest.’ Matthew 11:28

Quote: “You wouldn’t abandon ship in a storm just because you couldn’t control the winds.’’ Saint Thomas More.

Reflection: As a school community we have faced many challenges during this time. We have come together in Christian Fellowship to journey together. It may appear a dark time but remember that the Sun always rises after the dark and so we will sail in calmer waters. Blessed Edmund Rice overcame many challenges to build his community and this spirit of resilience in times of adversity shines in each and every one of us today in St. Declan's College.

Friday Reflection – Hope

Scripture: ‘I wait for the Lord, my soul waits and in his word I hope.’ Psalms 130:5

Quote: “If you do not hope, you will not find what is beyond your hopes’’. St. Clement of Alexandra.

Reflection: We live a life of hope by trying each day to see where God is acting. Then we try to act in harmony with it. We live hope by cooperating with God’s love. These times are hard for many and harder still for some. Hope is given to us when, we remember that God is still with us. From the beauty in a fall of snow or the wonder of the dawn chorus, remember that He’s bigger than all these things. As a school community we work together to fulfill the hopes of all our students and staff. Like the Apostles on the road to Emmaus, afraid and lonely, their hope of seeing the risen Lord was fulfilled. Hope will not let you down.
