Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s).

On the eve of our return to school I would like to extend a warm welcome back to the classroom to our students and staff for the final term of 2020/21. Having successfully reintroduced the senior cycle students before Easter, tomorrow will see the return of our 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Transition Year groups for the first time since December. One extraordinary academic year has been followed by another.

It is our sincerest hope that we will see this term through with all students present. It is in the school community’s interest that this happens and within each person's gift to play their part to ensure it does. Now more than ever before, everyone must commit to embracing St Declan’s College Covid-19 protocols. The simple messages remain as relevant today as when they were introduced to the world in March 2020.

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, or clean them with alcohol-based hand rub
  • Maintain at least 1 metre distance between you and other people and at least 2 metres during break-times when not wearing a face mask
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Wear your face mask at all times, including coming to and going from school
  • When possible walk or cycle to school but avoid doing so in groups
  • Students living near the school are asked to go home at lunchtime
  • Minimising the time you spend in the company of others minimises your risk of exposure to the virus
  • If you feel any way unwell do not come to school

During an extended tutor period tomorrow our tutors will work with each class group to make sure no student is in doubt as to their role in keeping themselves, our school and our communities safe from Covid-19.

Before any student can return to school parent(s)/guardian(s) must complete a “Return to Educational Facility Parental Declaration form”. The link to this form was sent to you on Friday. If you haven’t already done so I am asking you to complete and submit it now.

Any student cycling to school should know and obey the rules of the road and is strongly advised to wear a helmet. All bicycles should be locked and placed in the bicycle cage.

Each student is expected to comply fully with our school code of behaviour. Special attention is drawn to the sections on wearing the correct school uniform, beards and haircuts.

I look forward to seeing the school once more returning to being a centre of education for all our students. It is where they belong and where learning is most effectively done. In welcoming them back I would like to extend my thanks to you as parents and guardians for your support, understanding and good wishes through a period of time which has tested each and every family. I know we have done the best we can through hugely challenging times and have learned many lessons. That is how we grow, together.

As ever, if you need to contact me please do not hesitate to do so. You can do so by email or through the school reception.

Wishing you and your son every good wish for the coming weeks.

Brian Avery

Principal.
