West Leinster Track and Field Championships Santry

Our athletes took part in two fantastic days of athletics this week at the West Leinster Championships in Santry Stadium.

36 students comepted in an array of track and field events over the course of two days. St. Declan’s would like to congratulate all our athletes for their contribution and effort in their chosen track and field events. It was great to see so many students representing our school in the different events.

On Tuesday, we had four extremely successful athletes. Nkemjika Onwumereh came 2nd in the Inter Boys 100m sprint, Greatness Leleji came 2nd in the Junior Boys shot, Oliver Hopkins came 2nd in the Minor Boys 1,100m run and Christian Moore came 2nd in the Minor Boys high jump. All four athletes received medals on the day and they will now represent St. Declan’s in the upcoming Leinster Competition in May.

On Thursday, we had two victories. Craig Duffy achieved 1st place in the Under 16 long jump and Nkemjika Onwumereh came 3rd in the Inter Boys 200m sprint. Both athletes were presented with medals on the day and Craig will move forward to represent St. Declan’s at the Leinster Competition in May.

We had many talented athletes taking part on Tuesday and Thursday. Congratulations also to Emmanuel Akinrolie, San Whelan, Pablo Silva and Daniel Bakekolo who qualified for the finals at the West Leinster Championships and just narrowly missed out on winning a place to move forward to the Leinsters. Hopefully they will get their opportunity to compete in the Leinster Competition next year.

Congratulations to all athletes who participated, and we would like to wish those athletes who will be competing in the Leinster Competition the very best of luck.
