Corn Uí Laighin

Corn Uí Laighin

The Corn Uí Laighin is awarded to the student who recieves the best overall results in the Junior Certificate examination. The cup is named after Seán Ó Laighin. He was the first lay person to teach in St. Declan’s College beginning his career here in 1962. He taught Irish and many other subjects while he was a teacher and then twenty two years later, in 1984, he was appointed to the position of Vice Principal following the sudden death of Bernard McCormack. He remained in this position until 1999 when he retired.

The student from each of the Junior certificate classes who receives the best results in his class is also acknowledged. He receives a certificate and presentation in recognition of his achievement.

These awards are presented at an assembly of the entire school body which takes place on the last Friday of September.
